Can You Escape From The Real Hades? Hey Lesson Finds Out

January 19, 2021 by Chris Johnston

The conceit behind podcast Hey, Lesson! is fantastic. Host Brendan Caldwell brings two experts on to each show; one, an expert on the game side of things to talk about the episode’s game du jour. The second is an expert or academic on a topic inspired by that game. Take for example their episode on Supergiant’s awesome roguelite action game Hades. Chris Bratt talks about the game with Brendan, and then we’re treated to an interview with Gunnel Ekroth, an archaeologist who specializes in ancient Greek religious practices to talk over the game’s similarities and differences with Greek mythology. It’s a fascinating listen.

Each episode is concise, and the expert interviews are edited—though are also available in full to the show’s Patreon backers. The show also has a YouTube channel which includes both podcast episodes and other material inspired by the conversations from it. Other episodes already available cover questions from games like Death Stranding, Yakuza, Star Wars Squadrons, Spelunky 2, and others.

A fantastic podcast you should consider adding to your queue immediately. Can’t wait to see what’s in store in the future for this show.
