At the time Phantasy Star Online came out for Sega’s ill-fated Dreamcast, online gaming on console was a completely new frontier. Sure, PC gamers had been enjoying it for years, but gaming online with the Dreamcast console in front of a TV felt like a completely new world.
One of the best online games on the Dreamcast was Sega’s Phantasy Star Online, and Tyler Esposito from My Retro Life reminisces about his time playing the game in his latest video, embedded below. From poring over the Versus Books strategy guide to playing a game with forum friends, his experience is not unlike my own with the game and it remains a favorite. Here’s hoping that the upcoming New Genesis update to PSO2 brings back the magic of the original.
