Back in the mid-90s, riding high on the success of NBA Jam and NFL Blitz, Midway paired with Golden Tee dev Incredible Technologies for an “extreme” baseball game project called Power-Up Baseball. Until recently that game was lost to time, but the The Video Game History Foundation unearthed a treasure trove of knowledge on the game for an extensive article, and followed it up by interviewing programmer Brian Smolik for the most recent episode of The Video Game History Hour. An interesting listen about the game’s development and testing with a window on why the game ultimately didn’t make it to market (too many broken trackballs!).
